Chain of Custody

Highland Craftsmen Inc has received Chain-of-Custody Certifications for Bark House® brand Bark Siding!

Certification of the management practices by a reputable certifying body means that forests are managed sustainably. Once a forest is certified it is important to be able to trace the products that come from it throughout the supply chain to ensure that any claims on the origin of the product are credible and verifiable.  This is called Chain of Custody.  CoC tracks the flow of certified wood through the supply chain and across borders through each successive stage – including processing, transformation and manufacturing – all the way to the final product.  This ensures that the end-user maintains the power of their purchase in contributing to sustainable forestry.

Receiving a Chain of Certification is a process that a company must be dedicated to.  It relates a verifiable commitment in the movement of materials and goods.  Highland Craftsmen Inc has received Chain of Custody certification from the top three US affiliated companies including the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), The Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) and The Program for Endorsement of Forestry Certification (PEFC).  We became certified in all three, because just as we have responsibility to our clients, we have a responsibility to our vendors. Vendors choose different certification programs that meet their management goals and needs. All of our bark siding material comes from the Appalachian region where forests are designated by the US Forest Service as “ Sustainable”.  One of our goals was to verify that our bark siding material is not illegally sourced. FSC, PEFC and SFI help us accomplish that goal.

CoC Certification is an important step for a company to relate their level of commitment to industry, vendors and clients.  As the Original Bark Shingle Manufacturer and Industry Founder, Highland Craftsmen is proud to be leading the way in a sustainable future.
