Handrails

Rustic handrails are a wonderful accent and provide a signature piece for any home. Handrails can be used in interior or exterior applications. Their location dictates the species of wood used in their construction. Using our materials, you can build handrails with straight pickets or create weaves.

The connection systems we designed eliminates toe-nailing that splits the wood and decreases product life.

This post to deck bracket gets the wood out of standing water and allows air to flow around the material.  This increases product longevity and improves fastening.

This custom handrail is not only beautiful but it will last for generations.

HC helps you make the unique statement that you care about quality craftsmanship and beautiful aesthetic.

You always have options when working with Highland Craftsmen®.

These include:

  • Handrail components or raw materials by the piece. See Twigs, Poles and Logs for detailed information.
  • Mortised rails and tenoned pickets cut to your specifications.
  • Pre-build handrail sections (excluding stair area) ready to be attached to a post and built to your measurements and specifications

No two handrails are ever exactly alike because of the use of the organic materials for their construction.

Application

Whether you are working with an experienced builder, or installing handrails yourself, detailed measurements and drawings will need to accompany your order. Please note that handrails are subject to building code regulations, and you may need to check with your local inspections office.

Handrail Brackets

Highland Craftsmen® has designed a bracket system to increase the longevity and strength of exterior handrails and posts. Our brackets are galvanized or painted steel and can be exposed or concealed under the post.

The post to deck mounting bracket elevates the post so air flows underneath, therefore the post does not stand in water, which can lead to rot.

The rail to post mounting bracket eliminates toe-nailing that can check the wood and cause the rail to fail.
