Current Inventory

This page allows you to unclick heights, widths, and shapes that you are not interested in.  In case there are no slabs or mantels remaining, you will need to expand your search by adding sizes and shapes back in.

Remember, Bark House® Live Edge Wood Slabs are all unique and individual pieces. This is not an item for you to pick a favorite and request five of this exact slab.  If you need five slabs, you need to choose five different slabs that meet the characteristics of your project.

#2: Decide the Type of slab:

Mantel, Rectangular Slab, Irregularly shaped Slab, or a Round Slab. Each Live Edge Wood Slab is individually crafted based on the tree it came from. We offer a variety of shapes to provide you with the perfect desk, table, mantel, or wherever your creativity can take you. All sizes are subject to availability.

#3:  Decide the Size of your slab:

The Live Edge Wood Slabs range in length from 2’ to over 18’ in varying increments, allowing you endless possibilities to make your project vision perfect.

The widths of slabs vary between 1’ to more than 6’. Since we want to tell the story of the tree that the slab has come from, each slab has its own individual look and size just like the tree it was sourced from. This means that not all widths will have the same length. All sizes are subject to availability.

#4: Decide what Species you need for your project:

Our slabs come from varying species of trees; Ash, Black Locust, White Birch, Cherry, Soft Maple, White Oak, Eastern Red Cedar, Red Oak, White Pine, Hard Maple, Sweet Gum, Hickory, Black Walnut, and more. All species are subject to availability.

Locally and Sustainably Harvested Live Edge Wood

We keep an extensive inventory of Appalachian species with a focus on wind falls and diseased trees that are locally acquired. Most often they are “yard trees” that, without the normal forest competition, tend to have thick stocky trunks. We only accept the older and most gnarled or figured wood as they best tell the story of the tree’s struggles to survive.

These trees speak through the grain of their wood. Technical terminology for characteristics such as Curly, Spalted, Quilted, Wormy, and Burly are simple labels for extremely complex growth and figure resulting from a myriad of stresses and injuries that the tree has endured.  This figure can be difficult to see in a rough board for the untrained eye, but once our raw wood slabs have been finished you will be captivated by the depth and movement as the grain tells the story of its life.

Our sawing technique called “slabbing” means that once we choose the direction to slice, we make repeated parallel cuts until all boards are freed. We don’t cut the bark edges off as to leave the natural “live edge” intact. After a period of air drying to relieve the boards of excess moisture, we finish dry and sterilize them in our kilns before offering the finished, raw wood slabs to you.

Whether you are searching for a unique desk, mantel, table, bar top, or even stunning wall art, use our search tool to browse our online inventory of live edge wood slabs and mantels. Our sales staff are also happy to walk you through the myriad of color, shape and size choices available to help you discover your perfect one-of-kind piece.

Bark House giant live edge wood slab crosses main street
“"When we were building the new tasting room for our winery we knew we had to have a remarkable piece of wood for the bar top. I looked to Bark House explaining that I needed a nice mountain look with a large WOW factor. When I went to the Bark House showroom, we were able to find that Wow factor I was looking for. A 17' long, live edge slab of white oak that was 42 wide and 3 thick!"”
