Along with other regional businesses, Bark House® participated in an invitation-only event on the campus of Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina on Feb 20th. The Career Development Center hosted a new program – Careers for Impact. Businesses were selected to participate because of their organization’s purpose-driven mission and commitment to creating a sustainable and inclusive economy. Internship and full-time employment opportunities were showcased, but more importantly, students were encouraged to network with and learn how to identify organizations with values aligned with theirs. ASU is committed to the three legs of sustainability – environmental stewardship, economic responsibility, and social equity. Susan McCracken, EdD, Director of Career Development and Economic Engagement shared a favorite response from one of the students. “Everyone I talked to loves what they do. It is easy to focus on what we do rather than who we are”. This is a lesson well learned for all of us to benefit from.
