Project Name: MSA – Merriman Schmitt Architects and Orsborn Engineering Group Offices, New Construction
Location: This is the NEW LOCATION for MSA – 605 Lexington Avenue / Suite 300 / Charlotte / NC
Project Vision: We wanted to create a new studio that had a blend of high-tech industrial aesthetic, balanced and softened by some natural materials. We like to think of it as “rustic technology”. The bark entry portal and segmented slab “touchdown” tables were the perfect materials to achieve this feel. Clients are always surprised when the elevator door opens to this beautiful bark portal. It’s both unexpected and welcoming and everyone just wants to touch it.

Products Used: Bark House® Wood Slabs and Poplar Bark Tiles
Product Experience: I discovered The Bark House when my previous resource for live edge slabs dried up. I had the idea for these standing height live-edge tables with oxidized steel bases for the new office but needed a new resource. My carpenter (whose name is Mike Carpenter) discovered The Bark House online and said I should take a look. I was blown away – not only by the amazing product materials but contrary to any other vendors of wood slabs, the website was unbelievable. Every slab in inventory is shown with photos, dimensions, and pricing. And the bark products were new to me and not something I had planned to incorporate. But when I saw this material, I had to find a place for it in the studio.
