Your order will be placed in square feet. Multiply the length and width of individual walls, and add this together. Then, include a waste and lap factor (2” min for exteriors). If you are planning for a 2” lap, then the waste and lap factor will be as follows:

15% for 18” shingles/tiles
12% for 13” shingles/tiles
5% for 26” shingles/tiles

If you desire a different lap for your project, the details for figuring the lap factor and your sq ft amount are located in the Product Guides section on the Product Page.

Poplar Bark Shingles and Tiles are delivered on pallets. The sizes are as follows:
For 18” length bark: 48” x 18” for quantities under 208 sq ft and 48” x 54” for quantities up to 1002 sq ft.
For 26” length bark: 48” x 26” for quantities under 256 sq ft and 48” x 52” for quantities up to 1000 sq ft.
The height of the pallets depends on the quantity ordered.

The weight specifications per square foot are as follows:
Premium Grade: 2.25 lbs
Standard Grade: 1.75 lbs
Interior Grade: 1.5 lbs

While the packaging material adds nominal weight, if you have any concerns, please feel free to ask your customer specialist for the specific weight of your pallet.

Requesting Bark House® Poplar Bark Panels is easy! You will choose individual panels and options from the Online Poplar Panel Catalog. 

Every panel is unique (1 of 1), not one of many. They are individually photographed, sized, and priced.

A helpful SORT tool at the top of the catalog assists in choosing panels in the sizes that you need. Poplar Panel heights start at 7’ and increase in 1’ increments to over 12’ tall. Panel widths are not standardized as our goal is to recover as much of this rare material as possible. Select the same grade (Interior, Standard, or Premium) to cover one wall so that the seam between panels is less evident. An item number beginning with “POPP” identifies each panel. Please use the “SELECT PANEL” button. This feature will list all available options and when filled out will format an email directly to us with individual item numbers for your convenience.

Different bark materials have differing sizes that our artisans craft panels from. Some materials can be feathered so that seams disappear. Others will have a patchwork effect. All are mounted to a backer board. The sizes for the panels are limited by the substrate (or backer board) you select. A ¼” birch substrate can be ordered in sizes up to 4’x8’. A ½” MDF substrate can be ordered in sizes up to 5’x12’. All facings are 100% natural bark in the species on the product page that you select. Let us know the number of panels and panel sizes required for your project. See the Product Pages for how we orient the direction of the bark material on the panels.

Laminated Thin Bark Panels are delivered in crates built for the panels that you select. Panels are crafted to the sizes you specify. Weight for ¼” backed panels is up to 1.2 lb per sq ft, and for ½” backed is up to 2.5 lb per sq ft. The crate weight is dependent on the size and is available on request if needed.

We offer split posts and split rails. Let us know how many of either or both you require. There are Guides at the bottom of the Product Page that will help you to calculate this if you are unsure. You will choose the grade (Government or Standard) of posts and rails along with the length (7’, 10’, 11’) that are required.

Split Rails and Posts are delivered on a semi-truck flatbed at a per-loaded-mile rate with a max load of 900 pieces. Your site must be accessible with a forklift to unload. We occasionally deliver smaller loads locally on a flatbed truck. The rails and posts may also be picked up at our shop after purchase with an appointment. Rails are banded in groups of 30 each and Posts are banded in groups of 20 each. Both can be purchased individually.

7′ Government = 45 pounds each
7’ Standard = 30 pounds each
10′ Government = 50 pounds each
10’ Standard = 40 pounds each
11′ Government = 52 pounds each

A bundle of 30 Government Rails will be approx 36″ wide and tall.

Let us know the size of the area that you intend to cover (length x width). If your area is larger than 15 sq ft, the panel will have seams that we can either hide (called “keyed”) or we can leave the edges straight. The 15 sq ft panels are joined together to cover the space that you specify. We’ll discuss the options to lay out individual panels with you.
